He claimed that it was well known that Mr Theodore received £IO,OOO from the Queensland Licensed Victuallers’ Association in return for certain immunities for three years. Senator Daly, Leader of the Government in the Senate, described the statements as absolutely false and malicious, and demanded that Senator Reid should make amends. Senator Reid replied that he had nothing to withdraw.
