AUCKLAND, December 4. ’ An appeal has been lodged by Mr. Dickson, who defended George Cafifery on the charge of the murder of Thomas Levy by stabbing in August, against the sentence of 12 years’ hard labour on the count of manslaughter. CafTcry is aged 34, and is a quartcr;caste negro. GISBORNE, December 4, Aliouen Alan Gibson, aged 39, a Canadian, was admitted to two years’ probation, to follow an equal term which he is now serving, on two charges of obtaining goods by false pretences, to which he pleaded guilty. HAMILTON, December 4. For being intoxicated while in charge of a car, William Edward Morris, a benzine pump fitter, was fined £lO, and his license was concclied for six months' The defendant drove the car an erraticcourse and went over a hank. WELLINGTON, December 4. .The City Council has accepted the tender of W, Hodges for the construction of the reinforced concrete structure to replace the Kelburn viaduct. The ; price is £21,439. j
