At the meeting of the City Council last night, Ci’ Campbell, who has been iu indifferent health for some time, was granted three months’ leave of absence. The Mayor of Wellington (Mr G. A. Troup), who is a' vice-president of the Royal Show Society, will attend the annual show at Invercargill next week. Mr W. J. Wakelin, of the Christchurch branch of tho Labour Department, has been promoted to be officer-in-charge of the Wellington district office. He will take up hie new duties within a few days. Mr (3. C. Sutherland, manager of the Dunedin branch of Messrs Wright, Stephenson, and Co., who. with Mrs .Sutherland, has been on an extended holiday trip to Great. Britain and Europe, is expected back in Dunedin by the express to-morrow night. Mr J. Beattie Mayor of St. Hilda, who has been appointed a member of the Dunedin Drainage and Sewerage Board in succession to the late Mr R. W. Hall, took his seat at the meeting of the board last night, when he was heartily welcomed by the chairman (Mr E. 8. Black). Mr Alfred Tarlton, London produce manager of the National Mortgage and Agency Company of New Zealand, Ltd., who. is on a business visit to the Dominion, arrived by the express from the north last night. He will remain in Dunedin for some days. Dr Marjorie Barcloy sailed from Wellington by the Makura on Tuesday en route to the United States to take np work at the Battle Creek Hospital, Michigan. Dr Barclay took her M.B. at Otago University, and then went to Edinburgh University, where she obtained the degree of medical radiology and electrology. Before returning to Dunedin she gained further experience in radiology on the Continent,

The Bishop of Dunedin has accepted the resignation of the Rev. G. E, Moreton m connection with the social work of the city, .Mr Moreton has - accepted a position in_ the Auckland Diocese as prison chaplain and assistant city missions;- on the staff of the Auckland City Mission, During the past 10 or 11 years Mr Moreton has taken a prominent part in the social wort of the city, more particularly in relation to the activities which he has directed from the Mission House in association with the Rev. V. G, Bryan King. He has also acted as chaplain of j 4“nhcan Memorial Home for'Boys, and during the disastrous floods of 1923 and the present year he was in charge of relief depot work. He recently returned from a tour abroad with the Otago section of the Boy Scouts, who attended the Imperial Jamboree. His departure will represent a great loss to the city.
