LONDON, December 4 (Received Dec. 4, at 9 p.m.) In the House of Commons Miss Margaret Bondfield (Minister of Labour) said that the committee on the Unemployed Insurance Bill regretted that it could , not accept an amendment to pay the wives of unemployed men 10s' instead p of 9s per week. It would cost £325,000. Mr J. Wheatley (Lab ) said he believed Miss Bondfield was personally opposed to the amendment. He would regret the day that women entered public life. Miss Bondfield moved the closure, which was carried by 293 to 168, and the amendment was defeated by 229 to 28. Several Conservatives and Libeoals did not vote. Miss Jennie Lee (Lab.) moved to increase the allowance for children of unemployed from 2s to ss, which would cost £4,500,000, and affect, 600,000 children. This defeated by 210 to 37, many Liberals and Conservatives and doseng of Labour members abstaining fsom tfte division.
