ELDERLY WOMAN’S DEATH.

KNOCKED DOWN BY TAXI-CAB.

(Special to Daily Times.) . AUCKLAND, November 6. Walking from a tramcar in Manukau road, near the Epsom tram barn, an elderly woman. Miss Elizabeth C. Toeker, of King Edward avenue, Epsom, was struck by a taxi-cab and killed about 10.40 last evening.

After alighting, Miss Toeker walked from behind the tram and was crossing Manukau road towards King Edward avenue when a taxi going towards the city struck her. The driver of the taxi, James Frost, applied the brakes, but the car skidded and shot forward on the road, which was slippery with the heavy rain that was falling. The woman was struck by the bumper and carried forward for several yards. She was immediately taken to the Auckland Hospital in the taxi, but was dead when it arrived there.

A WIDOW’S DEATH

A verdict of suicide .was returned by the coroner (Mr F. K. Hunt, S.M.) at the inquest into the death of Mrs Annie Ropers, aped 58, who was found dead in a room in Nelson street. The cause of death was poisoning. The deceased was discovered by a neighbour. Detective Sergeant Kelly said that the deceased had been summoned to Rive evidence in the Supreme Court in a forpery case, and this had worried her. She had been addicted to 'drink for some time, and finally she was in a condition to do anything,"

FARM WORKER’S DEATH

TE AROHA, November (5. James Alexander Hamilton, single, aged 33, committed suicide with a razor in an outhouse on a farm where ho was employed at Waitoa yesterday morning. Evidence was given at the inquest this morning by a brother. Hamilton was subject to drinking bouts, and he had just returned from Auckland, where he had overstayed his holiday by a week.
