Olympic welter-weight champion, in His first professional contest, the Wellington man being matched with Steve Hughes, of Dunedin, in a 15-round clash at the Drill Hall to-morrow night. Hughes is the ex-light-weight champion of Scotland and a clever boxer-fighter who has been fighting at the top of his form in training work-outs. Formerly he was a sparring partner of Tommy Milligan, middle-weight champion of Great, Britain, and on the score of experience there is nothing between the boxers. A fast and willing fight is anticipated, and it will be interesting to observe the styles of the two men, Morgan being the possessor of a deadly left hook to the body,.while Hughes is a solid, straight puncher. Both should bo in great fettle, and there should be no let up from gong to gong. The big attraction is to start at 8.30 p.m. and it will be preceded by two first-class preliminaries.
