THE ENGINE SHEDS' SMOKE NUISANCE.

TO THE EDITOR.

Sir, —If it is true that the Government is elsewhere using a smokeless fuel in engine sheds, surely the " City Fathers" will investigate the matter, and, if possible, get a change effected in Soutlr Dunedin that is long overdue. The smoke from the engine sheds is not a nuisance only, but is an abomination and a menace to health, and we who reside in the locality have only a chokinr - existence, I have been a resident in the vicinity of the engine sheds for several years. When my husband bought our home he did not take into consideration that it was in close proximity to the sheds. We have tried to sell our property many times, but the fact that those dirty yards are so close to it is a bar to a sale. On washinf days, if the wind is blowing from off the bay, look out for the poor washing, and in the middle of the night when windows are open for ventilation in comes blasts of thick sooty smoke.—l am, etc., Housewife.
