LIVELY SCENES
DISTURBANCE AT MALTA. POLICE MAKE AN ARREST. (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) MALTA, April 10. (Received April 11, at 5.5 p.m.) There were lively scenes at Valetta following the release of Dr Misfud Bonnici, a parliamentarian, who was imprisoned on April 8 during the House’s pleasure in connection with the publication of an alleged distorted version of the Speaker’s statement in reference of the political and religious question, which" is now being investigated, and also Signor Salafia, an editor, who was ordered on April 5 to be detained during the House’s pleasure for alleged breach, of privilege. Government supporters and opponents gathered in strength and paraded the town, threatening disturbances. The police intervened and were in most cases successful except outside the Constitutional Club, where Nationalists who were passing, carrying a black flag, shouted, “ Down witli England.” Members of the club rushed out and destroyed the black flag, hoisting the Union Jack and the Maltese flag and singing “ God Save the King.” Eventually order was restored. There was one arrest, Alfred Bencini, an ex-soldier, who allegedly shouted "Down with England,” being taken into custody, —Australian Press Association—United Service.
