CITY POUCH COURT.

Wednesday, April 10.' (Before Mr J. R, Bartholomew, S.M.) MAINTENANCE. Ernest Albert Bentley was charged with disobeying a maintenance order, the arrears on which were stated to be £B2 12s, and was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment with hard labour,- the warrant to be suspended conditional on his making periodical payments as directed by the maintenance officer and reporting weekly to the police. LIQUOR AF’tER HOURS. Ernest O’Malley, licensee of the Henley Jiotei, pleaded guilty to having exposed liquor tor sale after hours, and his son, John O Malley, entered, a similar plea in respect to a charge of selling liquor after hours.—Mr A, C. Hanlon appeared for both the defendants.—Subdnsp.ctor Cum™®gs said that on Good - Friday, about 9.25 pun., two constables visited the hotel and were served by John O’Malley with two gallons of beer and two rounds oT drinks. Later, they saw the licensee outside the hotel, and he asked them if they would not talk the matter over. In consequence of the conduct of the hotel, the local constable had found it necessary to visit it frequently after hours, but always before he could arrive a warning had preceded him, with the result that lie always found the premises closed. Both defendants had been convicted and fined on similar charges in November last.— The magistrate, said that if the sale had been made by the licensee he would have DO j esi tation in endorsing his license, and he wa s not sure that lie should not i j 1 u in the present instance, as the liquor had been sold, by a member of the family. In any case, the elder O’MalUy was responsible in that the offence had been committed by his servant. He would therefore be fined £5, and costs (10s) , and his son £5, and costs (I2s). The charge ot exposing liquor - for sale was withdrawn.
