PLUNKET SOCIETY.

The monthly meeting of the committee of the Royal New Zealand Society for the Health of Women and Children was held in the Plunket office yesterday. There were present: Mrs J, Johnstone (in ,alr L Allen, Mcsdames Joseph M George, J A. Hanan, Williams, W. Wilson, Cleghorn, Barnett, Watson, J. M- Callaway, Cairney, Sidey, Brown, G. Carr, Mandeno, and Arundel (Mosgiel). An apology was received from Mrs J. C. M George. - I'he treasurer, in presenting statement of the society s finances to date, reported the receipt during' the month of a gift of £250 to the funds of the local branch from the estate of the late Mr Hunter Shaw, of Patea.

.The matron of the Karitane-Harris Hospital reported as follows for the month ended December, 192S;—Number of patients admitted during the month, 8 mothers, 14 babies; patients discharged, 10 mothers, 18 babies; largest number in residence on any one day, 5 mothers, 19 babies. Patients were admitted from the following districts: Milton, Timaru, Stirling, Dunedin, and suburbs. The following nurses completed their course of Plunket training: Nurses Hobbs, Wereta. Horne, D. Macdonald, Rowe, ClarkSorrows, Chapman, Cussen, Metherili, Welsh, Greig,, I. Macdonald, Austin, heldwick, Bowrpn, Hooper, Marshall. Cropp, and Paynter. The following completed their course of training as Karitane nurses: Nurses Turks, Togan, and Reid. During the period December 28 to January 29, the following nurses commenced their course of Plunket training; Nurses Garland, Collier, Kirk, Dawson, Heath, Smith, Hill, S. Francis, Grant, E. hrancis, Butler, Malcolm, Aitchman, MKeuzie, Clark, Sussmilds, Hodder, Ward, and Hunter. There were 112 visitors to the hospital.during the month. Lifts were received from the following: Mesdames Johnstone, Ritchie, Rattray and Cleghorn. and Messrs J. E. Bartlett and J. Samuel.

The Plunfcet nurses for the north and central districts reported as follows for the month of _ December:—Number of babies on the list, 839; older children on the list, 184; babies breast-fed (including partly), 265; new cases for the month (babies only), 30; babies breast-fed (includin'* partly), newcases, 26; visits paid to homes, 574; visits to Plunket rooms, Stuart street, 245 mothers, 197 babies, 43 older children; Roslyn—lll mothers, 95 babies, 12 older children; Mornington—tjJ mothers, 64 Jbabiee, 14 older children; Kelsey-Yaralla Kindergarten mothers, 120 babies, 55 older children; out-patients’ department. Public Hospital " 10 adults, 6 babies, 5 older children; bottles of humanised milk sent out from Taieri and Peninsula dairy, 2436. The Plunkot nurse for Anderson’s • Bay district and out-stations (south line) reported as follows for month of December:—Number of babies on the list, 252; number of older children on the list, 40; babies breast-fed (including partly). 131; new cases for the month (babies only), 9; babies breast-fed (including partly), new cases, 7; visits paid ti Plunket rooms —Anderson’s Bay—96 mothers, 82 babies, 16 older children; Mosgiel—43 mothers, 42 babies, 9 older children; Outram—7 mothers, 6 babies, 1 older child; visits paid to homes—AndersonV Pay 84, Mosgiel 20, Outram 4, Abbotsford, Green Island, and Burnside 52. The following visits were paid to out-stations: Mosgiel 4, Outram 2, Abbotsford 4, Green Island 4, Burnside 4.
