RACING NEWS. FIXTURES. February 16. —Dunedin Jockey Club. February 16. —Wanganui. February 16, 18. —Te Aroha. February 20, 21—Woodville. February 20, 21. —Gore. February 23. —C.J.C. February 27, 28.—Dannevirke. February 28, March 2, —Marlborough. February 28.—Waiapu. March 8, 9.—Napier. March 14.—Waimato meeting. March 16.—Oamaru meeting. By Sentinel. Nightmarch was regarded in some quarters as the worst handicapped horse in the Dunedin Cup. He won, but horsemanship helped the handicapper to justify his figures. Francolin gave Stealth 51b and a handsome beating over five furlongs at Invercargill and the latter has been badly treated in being asked to meet his victress on 21b worse terms in the Hopeful Handicap. At the Dunedin summer meeting Francolin gave 2Jlb and a beating to Stealth, when they finished behind Dutch Money in the Juvenile Handicap. Count Cavour ran like a bade number in the Dunedin Cup. He has been raised 21b in the D.J.C. Handicap, where speed rather than his well-proved, but past displays of stamina, on which he won his reputation, is necessary. Battle Flag is a strong fancy in some quarters for the Flying Handicap, She is credited with doing good work at Riverton, and she bead Rin Tin Tin at the Winton meting. Royal Duke may be fancied at Wanganui to-day. He has run some good races tinder big weights in hack company, and: also_ in a better class. He is near the minimum at Wanganui. The acceptances for the second day of the Dunedin Cup meeting look bad in comparison with the number of horses handicapped. It should, however, be remembered that a considerable number of the horses handicapped were not brought to Wingatui, and in some circumstances would not have appeared in the list of weights.

Francolin gave Night Lad 81b in the juvenile Handicap when they met at the Dunedin summer meeting, and confirmed her superiority at Invercargill by giving 131 b and another chastisement. Night Lad won at Wellington, and is now in receipt of 41b from Francolin, so that the Night Raid gelding has, according to the handicapper, improved about 211 b. The opinion will be tested at Wingatui to-day. C. Emerson was offered the mount on Paperchase in the Flying Handicap, but as he had been spoken to about the ride on Meadow Lark he booked up to ride the latter.

Silver Paper is amongst the acceptors at Wingatui to-day, but after several days’ idleness he may not show his best form. There is a drop of 71b in the minimum attached to the Abbotsford Handicap from that at which the field ran in the Stewards Handicap. Full Feather meets U aterlow at 21b worse terms over a furlong shorter course. Pangolin will be better suited by the shorter journey/ and there are some newcomers in the shapn of JHncompoop. Ark Royal, Tripaway, Wingatui, Eaton Bells, and King Sol. Full Feather may start favourite, with Eaton Bells next, and Overhaul regarded as a possibility. Tripaway has not been harshlv treated on her best form. Pangolin heat Tripaway into third place when the former won the Avonhead Handicap, run at the Grand National meeting, ■when Historic, meeting Pangolin on even terms, divided them at the finish. Pango1m meets Tripaway on 71b worse terms in the Abbotsford Handicap. TROTTING. FIXTURES. February 16.—Wellington T.C, February 23.—Kaikoura T.C. February 23, 27.—Otahuhu T.C. By Sentinel. It Is understood that Mr G. J. Barton ins purchased Maiwhariti, land the Harold Dillon gelding will join W. J. Tomkinson’s itribiG. Logan Chief is reported to be doing good work at present. It. is reported that Logan Park, Rose Mane, Blzear, and Happy Rosa will be amongst the starters at Wellington today. i The Tasmanian Trotting Derby, of one mile, decided on January 26, was won by Master Ribbonwood, by Lord Ribbonwood —Coonella, in 2.20 2-5. The Tasmanian Trotting Club Cup, of two miles, 4.55 class, decided on February 1, was won by Conara, a New Zealandbred gelding, at orfe time trained at Riccarton by F. Holmes for Mr J. Thornton The winner’s time was 4.49 3-5. Conara is eight years old and is by Logan Pointer from Marizoin.

The appearance of two’women drivers -—Mrs Pearl Kelly and Mrs A. A. Laid-law—-gave the Ballarat (Victoria) Club’s meeting a rather novel flavour (says the Australian Trotting Record). Both are accomplished horsewomen, and in actual race-driving the former is quite a veteran, but for a long time now has met with’ little success. Mrs Laidlaw has been more fortunate, for almost at the inception of her career she has tasted the fruits of Victory. Mrs Laidlaw drove Bazil Bells by Bazil B l —Ruby Bells, to win the Ladies’ Bracelet, of 40sovs, nine furlongs, in 2.46. The appearance of the handicaps for the Otahuhu Trotting Club's summer meeting brings that gathering a stage nearer, and no doubt Mr C. Goosman’s work will be well perused by trotting enthusiasts (says ‘ Orion ”in the Auckland Star) Of the 18 entered for the Otahuhu Cup. live have been placed on the front. They are not a brilliant lot of two-milers, and Harvest Child and Jean M'Elwyn look the best of them. Only Dundas Boy and Glideaway are on 12yds, and though Dnndas Boy has been racing well, (Hideaway should beat him. Audacious (24yds) has npt raced well of late, but at his best is good over any distance, and if O. E. Hooper lands him at the post at his best on Saturday week he should be hard to dispose of. On 36yds (3.29) are Silk Thread, Native Prince, Dillon Huon, Loch Moigh, The Shrew, and The Abbey They are a useful lot, and the best of them may be Loch Moigh, that is if he is all right. He is unsound and frequently is lame. Machine Gun, who has been consistently handicapped on 4.27, has been let out a second by Mr Goosman, but even so it is unlikely backers will select him as one of the favourites. Logan Park and Padlock (60yds) have been set severe tasks, although they are handicapped about right. Ahuriri (108yds) is a long way back, and to win would have to put up a wonderful performance. As no fnver than 12 of the 18 engaged hail from outside the Auckland province, it will be well to await the acceptances on Friday Then some idea as to the strength of the field likely to line up will be gathered.

WOODVILLE RACES. (Per United Press Association.) WOODVILLE, February 15. The following re-handicaps have been declared for the Woodville Jockey Club’s meeting:—Ruahine Handicap The Raider, 7.8; Victoria Handicap—Mir ter Gamp, 5.12,
