GENERAL NEWS.
Tlie Lavender Day, held yesterday in aid of the funds of Te Taumata Club, the Extension' Department of the Y.W.C.A. realised a satisfactory amount. The Executive Committee wish to thank all the ladies who donated lavender, made sachets, or acted as sellers in the streets, and all who assisted in any way to make the effort a success.
The monthly meeting of the Caverehara ■Ratepayers’ and Householders’ Association was held on Monday evening. ■ ■ There were present Messrs R D. Souuess (president), F. Wilkinson, G. J. Thorn, W. Bain, J. Challis. J. Lavender, T. M'Cracken, J. C. White. R; H. Todd, and A. Blackwood. A letter from Mr Swiuney with 7 reference to the right-of-way in the Valley road was received. It was resolved that the secretary write to the Tramways Committee for information regarding the tramways extensions, in Caversham, and also write the Railways Department pointing out the dangerous state of the fence surrounding the entrance to the new tunnel. During the evening Cr Black attended the meeting and discussed at considerable-length the urgent need for extensions to the Public Library. Mr M'Ewan _ (librarian) answered a number of questions,, and after discussion it was decided unanimously that the executive recommend to the ratepayers the advisability of supporting . the loan.
