OCEAN BEACH IMPROVEMENTS.

TO THE EDITOR Sir, —Mr Napier’s remarks in to-day’s issue are both reasonable and sound. Surely we have enough money to finance a scheme of this kind. It could be taken from the profits of our city trading concerns, assisted by the proceeds from the carnivals promoted by the improvement societies in St. Glair and St. Kilda. The present sandhills, extending the whole length from St. Clair to Lawyer’s Head, could be utilised for building purposes in the way of supplying houses, hotels, boarding houses, shops, etc., with a marine parade in front of these, planted out with trees, as in Napier, Garden plots could be added. When one sees what has been already accomplished in this respect in Timaru, one must admit that it certainly does attract visitors ip large numbers every year. I maintain that we have a far better asset in our Ocean Beach than either of these two seaside resorts mentioned, and it is open to doubt if there is anything better in New Zealand. It must be admitted that in their present state the sandhills are an eyesore. The possibilities of improving ouirOcean Beach are so great as to be well worth our efforts.—l am, etc.,- _ Pro Bono Publico. Dunedin, February 14. ,
