CHRISTCHURCH TO LYTTELTON. GOVERNMENT WILL NOT CONTRIBUTE.

- (Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, February 15. That the Government could not contribute' to' the' cost of a road tunnel between Christchurch and Lyttelton, although it would hot object to the construction of a tunnel, was the tenor of a statement made' by Sir Joseph Ward in answering a large Canterbury deputation this morning. The deputation had asked, not' for a road tunnel, but for better access to the wharves.
