AMATEUR ATHLETICS.

NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIPS (Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, February 14. ■ .Seville (high jump) has been included in the Canterbury athletic team. PACIFIC CLUB’S MEETING. The Pacific Harriers’ Club held a combined cycling and running meeting on the Caledonian Ground last evening in (he presence of a fair number of spectators. Good entries came forward for all events, but a strong breeze blowing down the ground militated against any fast times being recorded, excepting in the 75 yards sprint. Both running events were keenly contested, and the winner of both races, P. Mouat, had to fight every inch of the way for his two first places. Fogarty was not prominent in either the quarter or the one mile and a-half cycle handicaps, but in the three-mile event he role a splendid race, and just beat Bremford, who also rode well. The following are the results:— 75 YARDS HANDICAP. First heat; F. Mouat (Byds) 1, R. Lucas (Byds) 2, H. Lethaby (scr) 3. Six starters. Time. 7 l-ssec. Second heat: V. Waller (7yds) 1, W, Farr (4ydsJ 3, R. V. Isbister (Byds) 3. Seven starters. Won by half a yard, with a yard between second and third. Time, 7 2-ssec. Third heat: A. Holt (9yds) 1. O. E. Vo itch (4yds) 2, B. Drumm (4yds) 3. Six starters. Won by a foot, with a foot between second and third. Time, 7 2-ssec. Final. Harris (185yds) 2, J. Rennie (245yds) 3. Six starters. Won by 10 yards, with a length between second and third. Time, 4min Usee. Final. i Conroy 1 Cooper 2 Harris .. .. 3 Conroy, who was always in a handy position, sprinted at the final turn into the straight and went on to win by 15 yards from Cooper, who was 10 yards in front of Harris. Time, 4min 7 l-ssec. THREE-MILE CYCLE HANDICAP. ’ J. Fogarty (scr) .. 1 S. Bremford (40yds) 2 J. Parsons (190yds) 3 Eleven starters. Fogarty and Bremlord lay well at the back of the field until the second lap, when the former went to the lead, closely followed by Bremford. At the final turn in the last lap, Bremford gained a momentary advantage and was first into the straight, but Fogarty, with a great burst of speed, drew up, and, in a great finish, just got home by inches. Parsons being four yards away. Time, 9min 15 sec.
