WAIKOUAITI, February 14 SCHOOL PICNIC. The annual picnic of the Waikouaiti School was held at Evansdale yesterday, over 200 children and adults making the trip. The weather was fine and a very enjoyable day was spent. Numerous children’s races were run and every child received a prize. AMATEUR ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION. The annual meeting of the Waikouaiti Amateur Athletic Association was Held on Tuesday night, when there was a qvod attendance of members. The /eport showed that the- meeting held last Easter Monday had been very successful, and there was every indication that the meeting to be held on the coming Easter Saturday would be even more successful. A vote of thanks was passed to Messrs E. L. Macassey, Thomson, Breen, and laacs. and members of other clubs tor their assistance, and to Mr C. W. R>t r .iay for the use of his roller. A much-needed improvement has been made by the recent installation .if a powerful light at the Beach Street Railway Station. HIGH GRADE CHEESE.
The manager of the Omimi dairy factory, Mr 'N. R. Marshall, is keepinc up his reputation as a maker of high grade cheese, one of his recent shipments se urine the very high grade of 95. There is a strong demand for loaf cheese from this factory, an inquiry having been received the other day from as far distant as Gisborne. CRICKET. A cricket match played Inst Saturday between Palmerston and Waikouaiti resulted in a win for the local team by 82 to 65. For- Waikouaiti’ the most successful scorers were Higgins (39 1, F. Townsend (22), and A. R. Townsend 18), and for Palmerston, Wills (23). Black (7). Chisholm (6), Parkhill (7), and Simpson (0 not out), did most of the scoring. Yesterday the Waikouaiti team travelled to Macraes, where they suffered defeat by 121 runs For Macraes, the principal scorers were A. Mills (63), S. Blythe (22), and M. Sutherland (20. retired! •
