LOYAL ORDER OF MOOSE.

BIG GATHERING AT CARDIFF. “ Howdy-Howdy-Pap! ” From shore to shore the Bristol Channel echoed with this cry (says the Cardiff correspondent, of the London Daily Mail) It was shouted first from the decks of the United States lines George Washington, and was repeated by 15,000 people in a flotilla of paddle boats and motor boats which had gone out to escort the American ship into Cardiff. In a few hours “ Howdy-Howdy-Pap ” had become a general catchword throughout this part of Wales, and people were hailing each other with it in the streets. “ Howdy-Howdy-Pap I ” is the salute of the members of the Loyal Order of Moose, a benevolent organisation now 1,000,000 strong. It had its origin iu Canada, spread through the United States, and now has 60 lodges in Britain. The word means—How do you do. How do, you do, purity—aid—and progress. The adherents of the movement are admitted with a secret ritual, and they can identify each other by secret signs and symbols and a password which is changed every three months. It was a contingent of Moose from the United States —550 Americans and Welsh-Americans —that hailed the British Moose men from the George Washington. The International Conference of Moose was held in the city, and Moose men and women of many countries had arrived in large numbers. Mr James T. J. Davis, the United States Secretary for Labour, and director-general of Moose, is at the head of the American delegation. He is a native of Wales, and went to the United States with his parent* in 1881.
