ROXBURGH NOTES.

(From Oun Own Correspondent.) ROXBURGH, August 27. If the popularity of the annual tournament of the Roxburgh Golf Club continues to increase as it has done during the past few years, it is manifest that it is going to become too unwieldy a competition to be conducted on the present lines, and some alteration must be made for future years. The committee m charge had no small task in arranging the play so as to avoid all possible congestion on the course, and its success h due in great measure to the excellent spirit of the competitors, all of whom co-operated with the management and bore any delays that may have occurred in the progress of their games with tolerance and patience. _ To Roxburgh the week-end was essentially a golfers’ one. Over 100 visiting players competed, and, with the addition of local competitors, the links were severely taxed, so much so that on Saturday afternoon, when the four-ball event was played, it was found necessary to make the ladies’ event a foursome instead of four ball, approximately 140 players competing that afternoon. The tournament was held in excellent weather, which contributed greatly to its success. The onen championship event was won by Dr Ross, who played his usual good game, and whose presence among the competitors was much appreciated by the Roxburgh Club. The goldfields championship fell to a local player, I. M'Lennan. The following are the winners of the various events:—Men's Bogey Match, Johnstone (Winton); Ladies’ Handicap. Mrs Collings (Wanaka); Goldfields Championship. I. M'Lennan (Roxburgh); Men’s Open Handicap- T, Snndes (Roxburgh); Ladies’ Handicap, Mrs Collings (Wanaka) ; Onen Championship. Dr Ross (Dunedin); Men’s_ Open Handicap, J. A. Jenkins (Dunedin) : Ladies’ Handicap. Mrs Walker (Wanaka) ; Men’s Four-boll Bogey, Stronach and Callender (Dunedin); Ladies’ Foursome. Mrs Sandcs and Mrs Laloli (Roxbuigh).
