BALCLUTHA DISTRICT NEWS.

< (From Our Own Correspondent.) BALOLUTHA, April 20. SOUTH OTAGO TROTTING CLUB. There was an attendance of 30 at the half-yearly meeting of the South Otago Trotting Club in Sinclair’s Hall last night, Mr D. Sinclair (president) occupying the chair. In outlining the work of the committee for the past half-year, the President stated that a track had been formed on the lower reserve at a cost of over £SO. This amount would have been exceeded to a considerable extent but for the generosity of several members in giving the services of teams and labour free. The club had over 80 paid members, and in addition several donations bad been received. The Secretary (Mr P. .1. Greaney) tendered his resignation, explaining that for business reasons he would bo unable to attend the meetings. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr Greaney for past services, and on the motion of the president, Mr Janies Henderson was appointed to the position. Accounts amounting to £24 8s 6d were passed for payment. The receipts to date amounted to £4B 18s, and the expenditure to £52 19s 2d, leaving a debit balance of £4 Is 2d. , „ Votes of thanks were passed to Mr ,1. Jenkins for a donation of £5, and to all those who had assisted in the formation of the track. After the mooting a ■ pleasant time was spent in song and story, and it was suggested that a social evening be arranged in connection with the annual meeting in September. THE WEATHER. In the, morning the weather was beautifully fine, but in the afternoon about 2 o'clock a sudden and unwelcome change took place, and there were some extra heavy rain showers. The _ barometer has fallen rapidly and the indications are for more rain.
