AN EXCITING INCIDENT. (Special to Dailx Times.J CHRISTCHURCH, April 19. Two horses that bolted in Manchester street shortly after 9 o’clock this morning finished up their wild career by knocking out a veranda post outside the People’s Palace. The lorry, which belonged to Messrs Hunter and Co., cartage contractors, left the Theatre Royal with a big load of seats. The driver was perched on top of the load and little suspected that he was going to have a most eventful trip. All went well until the cart turned south into Manchester street. Then a seat became dislodged from the pile and fell on the backs of the horses. Both animals took fright and started off. The driver was powerless to stop the pair, and before long ho was deposited unhurt on the side of the road along_ with a number of seats. With a free rein the horses continued their journey with increased speed A now motor car was missed by inches. The traffic inspector on noint duty at the Click Tower corner just had time to wave all traffic back and iump clear before the runaway pair dashed across the intersection. Seats were thrown off at regular intervals along Manchester street. The horses finally came to a halt after smashing a veranda post outside the People’s Palace. The driver was quickly on the scene, and the quietened animals were driven off with the remaining portion of the load.
