CANTERBURY TOURNAMENT. MALFROY DEFEATS ANGAS. (Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, April 11. The South Island championships were continued to-day. In the semi-final of the Men's Singles Malfroy beat Patterson, 6— 4, 6—l, In the final Malfroy beat Angas, I—6, 6—4, 6—l, 7—9, 9—7. It was a grim struggle, lasting over three hours.
In the semi-finals of the Men’s Doubles G. Sumpter and N. Wilson boat Seay and Angas, 6—l, 5—7, 6—l. Olliver and Patterson won the final, in which they defeated Sumpter and Wilson, 7—5, 4—6, 7—5, 6—2. Miss M. Gibson (Tirnaru) won the Ladies’ Singles from Miss G. Rankin, 6—2, 6—2.
THE MAORI TOURNAMENT. (Per United Press Association.) HASTINGS, April 11. At the New Zealand Maori lawn tennis championships the following events were concluded this afternoon ; Ladies’ Singles Final and Heneropa Cup.—Miss D. Newton (Auckland) beat Miss Hale (Gisborne), holder of the cup, 10 — 8, 6—l. Men’s Doubles Final.—Tdkere and Potae (Wanganui) beat Jones and Jones (Maniopoto), 6—4, I—6, 7—5, B—6.
