HORAHORA POWER STATION

FURTHER SERIOUS TROUBLE. COLLECTION OF DEBRIS AT SCREENS. (Special to Daily Times.’, AUCKLAND, April 11.

Further serious trouble which has developed at the Government power station at Horahora necessitated the partial closing of the plant this evening in order to enable the screens at the turbine inlet to be cleaned, pumice and other debris having been washed down the Waikato River during the past few days. Difficulties have been experienced at the station since the recent fall of rock occurred in the new waterfall at Arapuni. Considerable quantities of rubbish have been swept down the river, and the screens at Horahora became so choked that it was found imperative to stop a section of the turbines in order to remedy matters. This is the second occasion this year that a serious stoppage has occurred at Horahora through the collection of debris at the screens. The exact extent of the present trouble is not yet known. It is anticipated there may be a noticeable reduction in the output for some little time.
