ANNUAL CONFERENCE. COMMUNISTS DEBARRED. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, April 10. The annual conference of the' New Zealand Labour Party was continued today. The Rev. J. K. Archer, Mayor of Christchurch, was elected president, and Mr J. Thorn, of Wellington, vicepresident. The following resolution was carried concerning statements that had been made in reference to Mr J. Roberts and Mr W, BromleyThat this conference regrets the' unfounded statements made against Messrs Roberts and Bromley to the effect that they had acquiesced in the payment of 9s a day to single men and 12s a day to married men by the Government to men working on unemployed relief woik. This conference further expresses its complete confidence in Mr Roberts and in Mr Bromley, and it thanks them for the services they have rendered to the Now Zealand Labour movement.” A remit proposing the modification of the existing pledge of membership which debars members of the Communist Party from being accepted as members of the New Zealand Labour Party was defeated by an overwhelming majority, the voting being:—For the admission of Communists 9, against the admission of Communists 106. '
