The Estimates at present held up by the action of the Senate contain provision for the appointment of a CommisBioaer of Migration to Australia. It was stated during the debates on the Estimates that the Government intended to appoint Captain Curmi, now attached tr the Emigration Department, to _ the position.— Australian Press Association. According to a previous message, the Treasury, in consequence of a strike by the cab drivers, would be without funds from March 31 to April 11. Lord Strickland, the Premier, alleged that the Opposition Senators were supporting the cab drivers, but this was indignantly denied, and withdrawals were demanded. Lord Strickland refused to withdraw, and the Senate adjourned till April 11 a protest, without passing the Appropriation Bill.
