SYDNEY’S SHOW.
A GREAT SPECTACLE. (From Oru Own Coerebtondent.) ■ SYDNEY, April 5. The Royal Agricultural Society, which, by the way, is not the oldest body of its kind in Australia, despite what many people think—that honour belongs to Tasmania—is again staging its great pageant at the Show Ground. It is as an old and faithful friend as Sydney sees it. A little changed, perhaps, here and there m appearance, but, like good wine, the better for age. The man on. the land whom the cartoonists picture, with slouch hat, baggy trousers, and sheepish face frilled and embroidered with beautiful flowing whiskers, is. conspicuous for his absence, even if now he exists in the flesh, which is very problematical, except in rare cases. As a matter of fact, the man on the land who is down for the show, in the perfection and neatness of his attire, makes th e average Sydney man, a notoriously shabby dresser, look like a sartorial snifter. The show which is not merely the State but the whole of Australia, in microcosm, easily maintains the great standards of past‘years. Once afeain, Sydney sees, in this wonderful national picture, the work of men, and of their women folk, with faith and hope in their eyes and courage in their stout hearts, all the wonderful miracles of life, reflected in the golden grain, the fruits of old Mother Earth and the great vegetable kingdom, and all the aristocracy of cattle and stock xhe aggregate attendance at the 1926 show was 675,940. Last year’s figures do not count, because the show was spoilt by unspeakable weather-
