MIDDLEMARCH SHOW.

STRATH-TAIERI A. AND P. SOCIETY. A RECORD ENTRY. The twenty-seventh annual show of the Strath-Taieri A. and P. Society was held at Aliddlemarch in ideal weather—a bright sun, witli a complete absence ot wind. The show is considered to have been the most successful in the history of the society. The entries totalled 700— a record, —as against 020 last year. IJie entries in sheep showed an advance, tue cattle entries were about the same as last year, as were the horse entries, and there was a very considerable increase in the entries of dairy produce, roots, bread, etc. . _ The gate receipts came to £SO, as against £44 last year. The honours in the Shorthorn cattle classes went to Burnett Bros. Mr 1. Carruthers was the only exhibitor in the Polled Angus classes, and Air W. G. Alason in the Ayrshires. There was a little competition in the Friesian classes. In the Jersey classes Air J. 1 edotsky won the championship with Bulldog Grummond. The judge (Air Ireland) said that this was a very good animal, and that it had comfortably beaten the two other eligible animals. There was good competition in the horse sections, uiul the sporting events were also well contested. Air F. G. Glover had matters all his own way in the Corriedale section, and he won the championship with a ram from Air J. A. Johnstone s Bushey Park Station. The other sheep classes drew good, entries and fair competition. The cooking classes drew heavy entries, and keen rivalry was shown. This also applied to the dairy produce section. The bread, scones, butter, potatoes, turnips, wheat, cakes etc. were exhibited in the hall and they certainly made a fine show, which attracted large crowds during the afternoon. Air W. S. Williams must be complimented on his very fane bay in the hall. Two substantial, nicely dressed sheep were hung from the top ot the bav, and there was a plentiful array of small goods, very effectively arranged. The bay would have held its own in a much larger show. The show was well controlled, and the arrangements by the secretary (Mr J. Robertson) worked very smoothly. Results: — _ CATTLE. SHORTHORN.
