INDUSTRIAL MISSION

RECEPTION AT HARTFORD'. (Ptmi Assodstlon—By T»!»graph~Oopjright) NEW YORK, April 28. (Received April 29, at 10 p.m.) The Australian Industrial Mission was given a remarkable reception at Hartford. The Mayor had invited 300 manufacturers, merchants, bankers, Labour leaders, and social workers to meet the Australians, and the introductions occupied an hour and a-half. The representative reception Indicated the happy industrial conditions in the State of Connecticut.

Mr Fred Gauthier (president of the Labour Council) said while the unions and the employers differed in some things they always came together as one body on such an occasion as the visit of the delegation. Responding to a speech of welcome by the Mayor, Mr M'Ncill said that the generosity extended to the mission ’.ad been overwhelming. Americans throughout the tour had treated them us brothers. They had become great friends, and although their visits to most of the cities had been brief their farewells had been Quite touching. During its three days’ visit to Waterbury and one day at Meriden the mission was busy inspecting numerous brass and cutlery industries. All were open shops on piece or bonus work. The majority are working 55 hours a week, and the employes are well satisfied. —A. and N.Z. Cable.
