SCHEME POE ORGANISATION. ' THE COUNCIL’S INTENTIONS. (Peb United Press Association.! PALMERSTON N., February 11. It is officially announced in a communication to the Mayor (Mr F- T Nathan) from the Hon. George Fowlds, chairman of the newly-formed council of the Now Zealand College of Agriculture, that that body I has unanimously decided to proceed with ! its preliminary plans for thp preparation of a scheme for tho organisation of a fullyequipped agricultural college on the Palmerston North site. A few days ago tho College Council came to Palmerston North to inspect the Bati clielor estate, which has been purchased by the Government, and the M‘Hardy properly, which the municipality _ agreed to purchase for £IO,OOO as an addition to tho college site, subject to a university in tho fullest sense being established here. A brief announcement of the result of the deliberations of the College Council upon its return to Wellington was published subsequently, but the full text of the resolution carried was not made known pending their reference to the Minister. Mr Fowlds forwards the following statement of the resolution : ‘’That this College Council understands “1. That it has been constituted under the Agricultural College Act of 1926 for tha purpose of organising an agricultural college as provided for in the said Act upon tho site at Palmerston North purchased by the Government for that purpose. “2. That, pending the ensuing session ol Parliament, the council will be limited in the work of organising a fully-equipped agricultural college by the expenditure which comes within the statement made in Parliament by the Prime Minister at the time of the passing of the Act. “3. That the Government must naturally decide whether any proposed capital expenditure by the council comes within the Prime Minister’s statement. “4. That, subject to the '.imitations referred to in clause 2, the council resolves to proceed with its preliminary plans and preparations of the scheme for the organisation of a fully-equipped agricultural college on the Palmerston North side. “5. That the council disclaims any desire to in any way with tho work or status of Lincoln College, and declares its willingness to confer at the earliest possible moment with the governors of the college to ensure the fullest measures of co-opera-tion and to prevent, undue overlapping.”
