CRICKET IN GERMANY

INTRODUCTION SUGGESTED. LONDON. January 24. “I was pleasantly surprised to find that the Cologne fortifications have been transformed into playing fields on which all games but cricket were indulged in,” said Mr W. P. McElhone, ex-Lord Mayor of Sydney, and president of the New South Wales Cricket Association, who returned recently to London from a visit to the Continent. “The local athletic association,” he added, “is considering my suggestion to start cricket. I think it would be better for the world if the Germans were cricket enthusiasts. Bavarians and Saxons are better sportsmen than Prussians. Temperamentally they are excellently suited for cricket.” He humourously remarked: Under the system of attracting player* from abroad we might get bowlers from Germany.
