AUCKLAND v. WELLINGTON. INTEREST IN SPECIAL MATCH. (Peb United Pbess Association.) WELLINGTON, January 6. Considerable interest centres in the special match between Auckland and Wellington, the two undefeated teams in this season’s Plunket Shield series, which commences at the Reserve to-morrow afternoon. Auckland and Wellington are due to meet in the final of the Plunket Shield series a month hence, so that the game commencing to-morrow should provide an indication of tho northerners’ strength. Further interest will be manifested in the match on account of the likely players for tho English trip appearing on each aide. The Wellington team will bo selected from D. C. Collins, H. M. M’Girr, H. Lambert, K James, A. H. Hollings, B. J. Kortlang, F. T. Badcock, W. J. R. Christophersen, Mitchell, and Lowry (Hawke’s Bay), G. Orr (Wanganui), H. B. Massey, and W. Airey. The Auckland team will differ slightly from that which defeated Canterbury and Otago, as one or two members are unable to remain in Wellington. Players are being sent down from Auckland to fill the vacancies. AUCKLAND TOURING TEAM. WIN AGAINST EAST COAST. (Peb United Pbess Association.) GISBORNE, January 6. Mr E. C. Beale’s team of Auckland cricketers met an East Coast team selected by Mr A. M. Beale in a one-day match at Waipiro to day. Rain fell in the afternoon, necessitating stumps being drawn at 5 o’clock. The visitors won, making 208 runs for seven wickets against 95 by the local team. Butler (68), M’Carthy (37 not out), and Johnstone (25 not out) batted best for the winners, and E. Mill (20) and Kissling (14) for the losers. Bowling for Auckland Coates took two wickets for 10 runs, Butler two for 19, Saunders five for 27, and Wells one for four. The best bowlers for the Coast team were W. Oates (five for 79), Spence (one for 27), and Franklin (one for 37). * MATCH AT SEACLIFF. On Monday the Port Chalmers Club journeyed to' Sealiff and played a match against the Institute Club, the game resulting in a win on the first innings for the home team. Seacliff compiled 41 and 71, and the visitors replied with 21 and 38 for the loss of six wickets. For Seacliff Kilgour (16), Simmons (34), and Singleton (11) were the best batsmen, while for Port Chalmers Nelson (11) and Geary (11) were the only ones to roach double figures Keogh, Marshall, Mackie. and Singleton secured the wickets for the home team, and Wilson, Walsh, Annan, and Bowie were the most successful bowlers for Port Chalmers.
