ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
A SCHOOL BOY DROWNED. (Special to Daily Times.) AUCKLAND, December 10. A boy named Wright, 14 years of age, a pupil at the Warkworth High School, whose parents reside at Matakana, was drowned in the tidal river at Warkworth wharf during the dinner hour to-day. A number of boys had been swimming, but Wright, who remained, suddenly sank. The body was recovered later. ASPHYXIATED BY GAS, (Special to Daily Times.) AUCKLAND, December 10. The body of Thomas Gilbert Jackson, nurseryman, married, was found to-day in his room at 2 Burleigh street. Mount Eden. There was a gas tube in his mouth, and the gas was turned on. CHILD’S SUDDEN DEATH. (Peb United Press Association.) GISBORNE, December 10. Anzae Wilson, a Maori child, about 11 years of age, lay down during a school game this morning, and was later found dead. POISON DRUNK BY MISTAKE. (Peb United Press Association.) STRATFORD, December 10 A farmer named Ralph Carroll, aged 52, left his home yesterday morning with his son to do some stumping, taking a bottle of tea and a bottle of oil used in explosives work with him. At lunch time Carroll drank from the bottle of oil, which is poisonous, and collapsed. He died iu the hospital to-day. CONTACT WITH POWER LINE. (Per United Press Association.) MARION, December 10. An accident which fortunately did not end fatally occurred near the WanganuiRangitikei Power Board’s sub-station at Marten yesterday, as the result of which W. A. Voice, H? S. Roulston (linesmen), and a two-year-old boy named Fowler received severe burns. The men were engaged running out a low-tension wire, which caught in the branch of a tree, and swung into contact with the high-power lino. Both men wore rendered unconscious. The child Fowler was playing near by, and was struck by the falling wire and severely burned about the log and thigh. Voice and Roulston have recovered consciousness, but are suffering from extensive burns. DROWNED IN DAM. (Per United Press Association.) WESTPORT, December 10. John Parsons, aged 15 years, was drowned in the Westport Coal Company’s darn at Deimiston last night. The deceased, who was bathing with other youths, was not missed until the bathers wore dressing. The body was recovered after emptying the dam. SELF-INFLICTED INJURIES., (Special to omly Times.) CHRISTCHURCH, December 10. “ilis position was hopeless owing to the condition of his health,” said Dr J. P. 'W hotter this morning in giving evidence at the inquest before Mr 11. P. Lowry, coroner, concerning the death ot John Churchill Day, who died on Tuesday as the result of self-inflicted injuries to his throat. Dr Whettcr said that Day was suffering from an incurable complaint—paralysis of the palate, and ho could swallow only with difficulty. He ran a risk daily of choking or getting septic pneumonia from which ho would have died The patient was getting progressively worse. He had told witness that ho had lived too long. A verdict was returned that Day died from shock owing to the loss of blood and the effects of a wound in the throat, which had been self-inflicted while of unsound mind.
