PROBATION SYSTEM.
PROPOSED CHANGES. PRESENT CONDITIONS DISCUSSED. (Special to Daili Times.) AUCKLAND, November 26. Practically all the social workers in the Auckland district attended a meeting held to consider the proposed changes in the probation system. Mr C. J. Tunks presided and Archbishop Averill was among those present. The advantages of the present system were discussed, and exception was taken to any steps that would introduce undue publicity. A motion was carried expressing appreciation of the work of Mr W. J. Campbell, and it was hoped that he would be retained in Auckland. The meeting approved of the proposed extension of the probation system as outlined by the chief probation officer, provided it was regarded as imperative that the Auckland officer should give his whole time to the work. The Revfl Jasper Calder was appointed secretary of the meeting, and instructed to write to the chief probation officer seeking more definite information as to the proposals to appoint committees of social workers and concerning the duties and the status, official or otherwise, of such committees, and the relation to individual delinquents.
