FROCKS WITH BUTTONS DOWN THE BACK.

There is a growing revolt among women against frocks without fastenings, and a considerable number of the new autumn models display buttons and buttonholes {writes a London paper). Husbands, remembering the days of “button-down-the-back dresses,” need not be alarmed, however, for the dress designer is being very kind, and is cunningly- arranging to give the modern woman the effect of fastenings without the inconvenience of them. An example of the new listening fashion was shown in a dress of navy blue crepe de chine, the bodice part of which was slit down the centre of the back from the neck to several inches below the armholes. This opening was bound with ivory georgette, which also made the little collar, and had a dozen buttons and buttonholes of lacquer red. . At first sight the impression was that the mannequin wearing the frock had slipped it on back to front and forgotten to fasten the buttons. Both effects were intentional, from back-to-front frocks, and fastenings which do not fasten are among the amusing novelties of autumn drosses, and both provide interesting methods of trimming. The model also had the georgette collar put on back to front, the points of it coming to‘the cent re back, where there was a little finishing how of lacquer red nbKvcning frocks, with fichu olfocts, in which (he plain part of the fichu is at the front and the draped ends at the hack, are another instance of back-to-front fashions. A very striking model also, was provided bv a velvet evening cloak, which fastened with throe grey buttons at the back.
