NEW FUR PRODUCT.
REPORTED PARISIAN DISCOVERY. WELLINGTON MAN SCEPTICAL. (Special to aily Times.) AUCKLAND, November 25. While holding tho opinion that the tastes in furs differ according to nationality, Mr M. M. Pizer, of Wellington, who returned from England by the Arawa after making a study of the conditions in the fur trade abroad, is sceptical about the reported Parisian discovery of a silvery grey fur produced by a cross between a rabbit and another animal not disclosed by the jealous guardians of tho “secret.” It was reported in cablegram from London on Tuesday that the women of Paris wore so enraptured with tho product that they'were paying £4OO for a-haU length cape. "Rabbit fur is always restricted to the rabbit trade and it can never go beyond it.” said Mr Pizer. “The statement that women are paying a fabulous sum for a product such as this is ridiculous, for nothing approaching that price is paid for the choicest Russian sable.” Tho report in tho same cablegram that a skin produced from unborn calves was being introduced might bo true, he said. It was no innovation and was well known among furriers, although not widely encouraged. Whatever tho tastes of Parisian ladies, there was no groat fear, said Mr Pizer, that they would spread to Now Zealand. The New Zealander was differently built physically and mentally and she favoured a class of furs much different from her Parisian or London sisters, and was often more tasteful. “But it would be unwise to take much notice of such a farcical message as that concerning tho rabbit cross,” said Mr Pizer. “To me it appears to bo part of a campaign by those who are trying to injure the fur trade. The idea in this instance is to bring it into ridicule.”
