CAUSE OF YOUTH’S LAPSE. THEFT FROM GOVERNMENT. (Special to Oaxlv Times.) WELLINGTON, November 2b. “ilia mother attributes his lapse to bad associations formed while he was in town,” said Chief Detective Ward in the Magistrate’s Court to-day when Kenneth Guy, aged 13 years, an ex-employee of the Department of Agriculture, pleaded guilty to the theft of £2O 18s 6d in postal notes, money and stamps, the property of the New Zealand Government, The Chief Detective told the court that Guy was employed by the department as a cadet from January to November 1923, at a .salary of £2 4s a week. The money was taken from letters sent by farmers as subscriptions to a journal issued by the department. The youth disappeared last November, and went to Christchurch, where he obtained work with a farmer. He stole £24 from his employer, however, and for this offence he was admitted to two years probation. Mr E. Page, S.M., remanded Guy to next Tuesday for sentence, pending th(* report of the probation officer.
