SPEEDING.

In the Magistrate’s Court at Oamaru, yesterday, before - Mr H. W. Bundle, S.M., Arthur Durant Hudson was charged with driving a motor car in the borough of Oamaru at a speed greater than 18 miles per hour. Defendant admitted doing 24 miles per hour, and was fined 40s, and costs. Charles L. Clifford, who was similarly charged, pleaded guilty through Mr Hjorring, who appeared on his behalf. Counsel ■stated that the difficulty wag that people did not know really when: they were within the borough and again, the notice board was indistinct. Inspector White stated that the boards had recently been painted. He estimated defendant’s speed at from 35 to 40 miles per hour. The Magistrate, in • fining defendant 10s, and 16s 6d costs, said that he quite agreed with what Mr Hjorring had said with regard to the town boundary.
