SINGLE BLESSEDNESS

A DELUSION AND A SNARE. INSANITY RISK INCREASED, (Piiß* Association—By Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, July 15. (Received July 16, at 9 p.m.) Professor Robertson, president of the Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh, lecturing before the British Medical Association, declared that insanity was nearly three times as prevalent among single men and women between the ages of 25 and 55 as it was among a similar number of married persons of the same age. The incidence of insanity among married people was decidedly low. The obvious deduction therefore was that the condition of marriage was the most favourable mode of existence for men and women. Men who remained bachelors between 25 and 35 died on an average four yeans sooner than married men, in addition to running three times the risk of becoming insane. Professor Robertson added that a person’s powers first began to fail between the ages of 45 and 50, when increased effort was necessary in order to keep abreast of the younger competitors.—A. and x\ .o.
