CITY COUNCIL REPORTS

The following are extracts from the various committee reports-to be subnutted to the meeting o£ the City Council on Wednesday next:

GENERAL COMMITTEE. Instructions have boon given to the traffic inspector to take such steps as may be necessary to see that users of the pai ing place in Crawford street comply with the provisions of the city by-laws when driving to or leaving such parking place. This will necessitate all drivers proceeding to the nearest intersection to alter then direction of travel, and thereafter return to the parking place. The lns P ec^ r W^ 1 also take steps to put a stop to the practice of drivers backing their cars "heu leaving a parking place. WORKS COMMITTEE The Railways Department is desirous of having a roadway 20ft wide termed from Anderson’s Bay road thfough the continuation of Cargill road to give access to_ the new railway siding. Instructions have been given to the city engineer to carry on the work at the expense of the Railways Department, the payment to. be credited to that department s proportion ot the whole cost, which will eventually he borne in equal proportions by the City Council, the Harbour Board, and the Railways DcPa Authority has been granted the city engineer to proceed with the uoik ot widening the formation of Hamilton road fronting allotments 2 and 3, township oi Shi el Hill, the frontage of winch was recently sequired by the City Coimcil for road widening purposes. The cost, which is estimated at £l4B, is provided for in the current year’s allocations. WATER COMMITTEE. A report has been received from the city engineer on the condition of the old flume at the Ross Crock reservoir. Hie report indicates that it will he necessary to construct a new concrete flume of adequate dimensions and carry out sundry repairs to the bypass channel, together with other incidental works. Ihe works are all of an essential nature, and have, therefore, been put in hand.
