OTAGO OFFICERS’ CLUB.

ANNUAL. MEETING. The annual meeting of the Otago Officers’ Club was held last evening In the club room, Moray place, and was presided over by Colonel Barrowclough. Following la a summary of the annual report submitted: —“The fifth year of our corporate existence has closed with all the indications of sustained Interest in the club s aims and activities The membership stands at 176, after the roll has been purged of all unfinanclal members. The thanks of members are due to those officers who consented to give lectures, and in this connection attention is directed to the increasing difficulties of arranging suitable lectures, as the various subjects which have been gradually dealt with became exhausted. During the year three social evenings were arranged, and proved very enjoyable. On August 13 the club entertained Vice-admiral Marvell and the officers of the destroyer squadron of the American Fleet. The members of the club learned with very great regret of the death of Major-general C. W. Melvlll, C. 8., C.M.G., D. 5.0., the Commandant of the New Zealand Forces. On behalf of the club the president forwarded to the dead officer’s widow a telegram and letter expressing sympathy In her bereavement. We regret also that we have to record the death of two of our own members — Captain T. Burt and Lieut. E. F. Tyson.’ The Chairman, In moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet, referred to the activities of the club generally during the past year. Lieutenant A. S. Milne seconded the motion. , 3 , Colonel Frederic said that they had been disappointed at the support accorded the billiard tournaments. It was really disheartening that men would not come along to complete their games. The report and balance sheet were then adopted. The following office-bearers were elected: President. Major F. H. Bell, D. 5.0.; vicepresident, Colonel E, J. O’Neill, D. 5.0., C.M.G.; hon. secretary and treasurer, Major W. J. Worthington; committee —Major A. S. Falconer, Major W. J. Borrle, Captain J. H. H. M’Keefry, Lieut. G. Carter, and Lieut. R. E. Sleigh. The Chairman having expressed his thanks for the support accorded him and the committee, Major Bell took the chair, and returned thanks for the honour conferred upon him. He moved a vote of thanks to Colonel Barrowclough for his past services, the motion being carried. Letters were read from the Rev. Dr Merrington and the Rev. Canon Nevlll inviting members to attend Anzac Day services at First Church and St. Paul’s Cathedral.— It was decided to accept Dr Morrington’s invitation, it being pointed out that the official services were to be held in First Church, and to write acknowledging Canon Kevin's invitation. It was resolved to substitute 10s for las as the subscription for those residing outside a 10-mile radius of the city, and that the names of those members 12 months in arrears in payment of subscriptions be removed from the roll. It was decided to thank Colonel Falla for his donation of a photograph which is to be hung on the club room wail. It was also decided to obtain the services of a caretaker, who was to be In attendance during the evening.
