THE BANK OF NEW ZEALAND. The results of the operations of the Bank of New Zealand for the past financial year are not the most favourable that have yet been recorded, but they are very nearly so, and they are distinctly impressive. It is, of course, to be remembered! that the Bank had the advantage during a portion of the year of the command of additional capital, the prudent employment of which should, in normal conditions, contribute to the production of still more satisfactory figures in the future. The steady progress of the institution is illustrated in the following statement of its net profits since the beginning of the present century:
While the holders of ordinary shares in the bank are to be congratulated upon the results of the past year’s trading and upon the prospects of a continuance of the success that is attending the operations of the institution, the community as a whole may also with a great deal of satisfaction contemplate the fact that it participates in the prosperity of the hank, not only indirectly in the sense in which it participates in the prosperity of all undertakings in the dominions, but directly also as the outcome of the State’s investments in preference shares.
