THREE DETECTIVES.
IX A THRILLING FIGHT. A dramatic story of how three detectives pounced on a, man, knocking a loaded revolver aside, after the weapon had clicked in their faces, was told at Tower Bridge Police Court. , , Two Irishmen, James TV also, aged .10, and John O'Sullivan, aged 20, both well dressed, were charged with stealing a motor car from Harley street. Walsh was also charged with presenting a loaded revolver at Detectiveinspector Ward, with a view to evading arJuspector Ward said lie saw W alsh in "Waterloo load, and followed him to a boa.nl-iim-house. Shortly afterwards, with Inspector Dellinger and Detcctive-sergcaTit Ellis, he entered the hnn.se and saw Walsh sitting in the kitchen, lie wont towards the man and said, "We, are police officers. Ton answer the description "Before 1 could eay any more, he continued, “he drew a five-chambered revolver from ’iiis cent, pocket, pointed it straight at mo and said, 'Stand back! "Wc all ruslicd at him. 1 knocked the revolver uu with mv right, hand. Inspector Bellinger seized his right arm, Sergeant ■Ellis his loft, and, after a struggle, Sergeant, Ellis succeeded in wrenching the revolver from him. Wc found that it was loaded in all live chambers. “As we rushed at him,’’the detective continued, "the revolver clicked, but did not go oft.' There is a slight; mark on one ji the bullets where it apparently hit. I think there is same slight defect in the weapon. "At the police station I said to "Walsh, ‘You arc suspected of stealing a motor car at Harley street on Thursday last, and also of holding up the manager of a hank it Swindon yesterday, and oi stealing money there.’ "Walsh said, ‘I did not steal any motor car or hold up any bank, and .1 have, never been to Swindon, 1 was away from nv lodgings on Thursday night, and I don't know where I stayed, but it was not at Swindon.’ " Sullivan was later brought to the police station by another officer, and similarly charged. He said that on the dale of .ho bank raid lie went to Bristol with Walsh, staying there that night, and came back the next day. Both men were then remanded.
