TRUCKING OF STOCK. TO TUB EDITOR. Sib, —Last week I had occasion to send horses to the Dunedin winter sale, and naturally when a person has valuable stock ho does his utmost to have (ho animals looking as well as possible. Consequently an open truck was ordered to convey (hem and to my utter disgust I found it littered with slush and filth six inches deep. Seeing, however, that I had to use the truck or leave my horses at home, I hesitatingly used it. My horses were loaded so as to leave Waikonaiti by goods train about 12.20 p.m. They arrived at their destination—a distance of 28 miles—at 5 p.m,, truly a magnificent ran when yon hear so much of the department’s “speeding-up” policy. On the journey down there wore four other trucks in as had a condition as in my case. One owner informed me that he had to borrow a shovel (o clean his truck so ns to improve matters. Surely thc«o are conditions that require rectifying. Unfortunately I was unable to interview the officer in charge of the department, or I would have politely invited him to eomo and inspect the truck. Had lie done so he would have received a gentle shock, and perhaps then, and not until then, would ho wake un io n sense of his responsibilities.— I am, etc. S. Hagan. Flag Swamp, June 10. [The above complaint was referred to the local district, traffic manager, who in turn communicated with the .stationma-ter at Waikonaiti. The latter official stales that he inspected the trucks before the horses were placed in thorn. He considered that they were not in a dirty state, and that they were quite fit for the transport of stock.--Kn. O.D.T.] Don't let your wife, feel neglected. A kiss in lime saves nine.
