THE WEATHER.
WINTRY CONDITIONS. Rain fell in the early hours of Thursday night, and the weather became colder, and heavy snow fell on the heights surrounding Dunedin early yesterday morning. Rain and sleet showers fell intermittently during the day, and in the late afternoon snow foil for a short period. In the early evening the weather cleared, and the night remained fine, but bitterly cold. The minimum temperature recorded yesterday was 31 degrees, and the maximum 41 degrees, Fahrenheit. After an exceptionally long spell of frosty and dry weather rain commenced last evening about 6 o'clock, and continued during the night, and this morning (ho hills surrounding the town were covered with a coating of snow. The morning was cold and in the afternoon hail and sleet showers fell. SNOW IN CANTERBURY. (Per United a'bess Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, June 12. Wintry weather prevails in Christchurch, and throughout the province sleet, and hail have fallen at intervals during the day, and to-night snow showers were frequent. At one period Cathedral square was white, but a heavy shower of rain soon washed the snow away. The Port Hills are snow clad, and snow has fallen in most of the country districts.
