DEPARTURE PROM DUNEDIN. His Excellency the Governor-General {Sir Charles Fergosson), Lady Alice Fergusson. Miss Fergusson, Miss Orr-Ewing, Major Haviland, A.D.C., and Mr Little (private secretary), loft Dunedin by tbo first express yesterday morning on their return to Wellington. . The weather was very' cold, but this fact did not deter a number of people from assembling at the railway station to see the Vice-Regal party oft. Amongst those piesent wore the Mayor and Mayoress (Mr and Mrs Tapley), Cr J. J. Clark, Mr Lowm (Town Clerk), and Mr J. Sutherland Ross. Their Excellencies were heartily cheered as the train left the station. Sir Charles Fergusson has forwarded to the Mayor a letter expressing thanks lor the very enjoyable time spent in Dunedin. He staics that he is looking forward with pleasure to his next visit. He conveys ms warmest thanks to the Dunedin citizens lor the very kind receptions and for all the (pleasures they have given him and her Excellency during their stay. In every possible way the people had made them feci at home, and they had been very happy during their stay hero. VISIT TO CHRISTCHURCH. A CIVIC RECEPTION. ' (Per United Brass Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, June 12. Tile Governor-General and suite arrived from Dunedin this evening, being welcomed at the station by the Mayor (the Rev. J, K. Archer) and the town clerk (Mr J. S Neville). After inspecting and addressing the guard of honour formed of St-. Andrew’s College Cadets, their Excellencies departed for the residence of a relative, Mrs Alexander Boyle. At the civic reception there was a large attendance in spite of most atrocious weather conditions. Hts Excellency was presented with am address on behalf of citizens and welcomed on behalf of the churches by the Rev. Dr Erwin. , Replying to the civic address, his Excellency said that to solve the social and political problems which faced the dominion they should bring up tho youth of the country on the idea of service for common good. A full programme of public functions has been mapped out covering the duration of his Excellency’s visit.
