ALL-AUSTRALIAN AEROPLANE
TRIALS IN PROGRESS. HOPES OF FLIGHT TO ENGLAND. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. MELBOURNE, Tlio Postmaster-General (Mr W. G. Gibson) announced in the House that an aeroplane had been constructed at Richmond, designed by Squadron-leader Wackctt. It had commenced its trials, and if these were successful a flight would be made for the first time from Australia to England. Squadron-leader Wackett’s flying-boat, which has a 250 horse-power Puma engine, is equipped with a detachable under-carriage, which can bo let down when the machine lands on water, so that it may be subsequently wheeled ashore. Not only has the machine been constructed at Randwick from all-Austra-lian materials—the hull is of Queenslnad maple—but tools have been made so as to enable a staff to turn out similar machines for commercial purposes. All departments of the Air Board (says the Melbourne Argus) are keenly interested in the experiment, and are hoping for a great success.
