CANCER RESEARCH.
CAMPAIGN IN AUSTRALIA. (From Our Own Correspondent.) SYDNEY, February 5. The Cancer Research Committee, which aima at establishing in New South Wales a unit to be co-ordinated ultimately with similar organisations in the other States and throughout The British Empire, is making steady progress. That the public view will disquiet the menace of cancer is indicated by the correspondence received by the committee and by the increasing donations to the cancer fund. Some of these contributions are set apart for specific purposes; others are for general use, at tho discretion of the committee. A member of the Rotary Club, for example, is guaranteeing the expense of publicity work up to £1000; another business man is giving £2OOO for the encouragement of bio-chemical work in relation to cancer. The State Government is contributing pound for pound up to £SOOO, while the Federal Parliament has set apart £SOOO for the work. The present and projected activities of the committee cover a very wide field. The campaign is thus moving along practical lines, and with the study of this terrible scourge of humanity now established on sound lines at the universities good results along various channels of research are hoped for.
