JOTTINGS.

The newest watches are so small and flat that they are fitted into one of the links of a chain bracelet. • • • The odd earring craze continues, but now the earrings must bo of similar size and design, only in different stones. Coloured enamel rings are popular, especially one red and one black. * • • Sometimes the new gold link bangles are backed with a strip of coloured silk which can be changed to any colour in the rainbow—hence their name—to match the frock worn. « * * Strips of brightly coloured furs are being worked into plaid patterns for sets of muffs and hats, with sometimes a collar to match. The fur is arranged lattice-wise over a silk lining, and goes well with one of the fashionable plaid skirts. ♦ * » Small fans made of an exquisitely modelled flower in silk, lace, or velvet, according to the bloom chosen, and delicately scented, are among the Christmas novelties and form capital cotillion presents. The old-fashioned coat-frock merely meant a dress that looked rather like a coat. Today’s wonderful garment is designed to be worn either as a frock or coat, and falls into equally graceful lines as either. Ottoman silk is perhaps the best medium for these, and always the touch of fur. Pull-on caps of the softer furs, especially the smooth pelts such as leopard and gazelle, are very smart just now. The fur is draped just like cloth and tied into a small bow at one side. Often those caps have a small brim, the peak of which may be worn at one side. * * * Very charming are the new bags whose mount is made by a single large rose in natural colourings. Hand-painted ivory is often used with good effect. Novel also are the black moire bags ornamented with elaborate designs in phosphorescent beads, which quite brightly at night. ,- • • • Coloured ceilings have been in vogue for quite a long time, hut the latest idea is to have them painted to match the walls exactly so that the whole room gives a concentrated colour effect. Sunshine yellow in a north room, or soft blue or green in a sunny one, is most attractive. 4 « • Are our children going to become Victorian once more? Some of their fashions certainly tend in this direction, notably the short black boots and long white stockings which are smarter than the commonplace leggings and pantalettes. Fluffy skirts, trimmings of baby rosebuds and forgetmenots, and sashes all supply an essentially feminine note in the modern nursery. A mode of hairdressing which brings all the hair into a loose, curly, verv high knot on the top of the head is fashionable. So also is the “colter fringe,” described sufficiently by its name, and often allied with coils of thin plaits at the back. In the reaction from cropptxl heads eccentric and untidy modes appear, hut the hack of the head is still loft plain to show its shape.
