CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
The first meeting of the year of the council of the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce was held last evening, Mr F. M. Shoitt presiding. CASES OF HARDSHIP. The British Imperial Council of Commerce wrote enclosing the following resolution adonted by the Tenth Congress of British Chambers if Commerce held in London in July last: “That the Congress considers it a hardship that the British nationality and status of Aliens Act, 1922, while making it possible for the third generation of children born abroad of British parents to bo registered as British subjects, if born after August 4, 1922, should exclude children otherwise coming within the category and born during the war, but too old to be registered within the prescribed period of one year, or in special circumstances, two years after birth. The congress is of opinion that a further enactment should be passed to cover such cases of hardship.”—lt was decided to refer the matter to the associated chambers for consideration. PUBLICITY FOB CENTRAL OTAGO. A letter was received from Mr G. M. Marshall, Earnscleugh, dealing with the desirability for publicity for Central Otago.—Mr IT. D. Campbell suggested that it would be a good idea if a Afinisterial visit could be arranged for September. The North Island Minister couid then return, and their reports might result: in visitors during the Exhibition period.—lr was decided to refer the matter to the executive for consideration. COLD STORAGE PLANT. With reference to the proposed cold storage plant at Vancouver, the Department of Industries and Commerce. Wellington, wrote stating that information had been received to the effect that the Vancouver Harbour Board Commission proposed to erect a plane sufficient for the port for years to come. The commissioners proposed to erect the plant on a site which would allow of the handling of goods in the cheapest'possible way.—Received. SHIPPERS OF FRUIT. The Otago Provincial Fruitgrowers’ Council, Ltd., wrote stating that at a special meeting of the council special mention was made of the valuable assistance rendered by the chamber in securing important amendments to the Ftuir Control Act to meet the wishes of the Otago shippers uf fruit—Received. - ~
