PLUNKET SOCIETY.
The monthly meeting of the Society for the Protection of Women and Children was held in the Town Hall yesterday afternoon and was attended by Lady Sim (in the chair), the Mayor (Mr H. L. Taploy), Revs. Canon Nevill and C. Dallaston, Drs Siedeterg and Irwin, Messrs Duncan Wright and .1. M. Gallaway, Mesdames Foster, Hiett, and Jackson, Miss Runbiman, and the secretary. It was resolved to make recommendations on the following questions to the Government:— 1. That men imprisoned for three months should be paid during that period and the money given to their wives and children. 2. That some way should be found for closer supervision of the whereabouts of a man after he has left prison, especially if he has been imprisoned lor not maintaining his family, so that ho may not have a chance to disappear and evade his responsibilities. The Secretary reported 30 cases, and recommendations were made thereon. The Treasurer’s statement was tabled and passed fw jpayment.
