CHARGE OF THEFT.
I CHAIRMAN OF SCHOOL COMMITTEE | ARRESTED. (Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, January 8. Ernest Hawkins, chairman of the Spreydon School Committee, was arrested to-day on a charge of theft involving £2l. It is alleged that the money was part of the proceeds of a bazaar, and had been entrusted to Hawkins’s keeping. When the time I came for the money to be paid over to the j Education Hoard Hawkins, according to I the police report, failed to do so. i Hawkins appeared before the MagiaI trade's Court this afternoon, and was rci mantled.
